KP Snacks is excited to announce the introduction of 25% recycled content packaging across its popular Tyrrells sharing range. This new packaging initiative, which incorporates recycled soft plastics, will reduce reliance on virgin plastics for packaging.

The roll out of the new Tyrrells sharing bags follows KP Snacks’ commitment to use as little plastic packaging as possible. Launched last year, KP Snacks’ People & Planet responsible business programme outlines ambitious goals to ensure the business makes a positive impact on the natural world.

Since 2014, KP Snacks has removed 1,100 tonnes of plastic packaging across its portfolio. The Tyrrells packaging update follows a recent investment in new flow wrap equipment, reducing 35% of plastic packaging across its classic Discos, Roysters and Frisps ranges.

Available in stores now, the new packaging will feature best-selling Tyrrells flavours, Lightly Sea Salted, Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar, Sweet Chilli & Red Pepper and Mature Cheddar & Chive, in 150g formats. The new packs will feature a green on-pack flash that calls out the use of the recycled plastic.

Beth Minch, Marketing Manager, Tyrrells, KP Snacks, says, “This new packaging innovation is a key milestone for the Tyrrells brand. We know our customers care about great taste and quality, but also the environment. Sustainability continues to influence purchase decisions and the new Tyrrells sharing bags will appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.”

John Leslie, Packaging Technology Manager, KP Snacks, says, “As an industry leader, we understand we have a responsibility to drive change. We aim to support the use of recycled plastic in our packaging as it becomes available, facilitating the drive towards a circular economy and a more sustainable future. By introducing recycled content to our Tyrrells sharing bags, we are beginning to close the loop on packaging while reducing the need for virgin plastics. This latest packaging innovation forms part of a broader cross-brand strategy designed to minimise our environmental footprint.”

KP Snacks is continuously seeking ways to reduce its packaging impact. As signatories of the UK Plastics Pact, the company has committed to the following targets by 2025:

– Using as little plastic packaging as possible across portfolio

– Aim for 100% of packaging to be recyclable (currently over 90% can be recycled at supermarkets across the UK)

– Work with the Flexible Plastics Fund to support investment in recycling infrastructure

– Sourcing recycled content as it becomes commercially available

Alongside packaging reduction, KP Snacks is working on a number of initiatives to make recycling easy for customers whilst still maintaining the highest standards of food quality and freshness.
