Continuing to redefine the rum category, award-winning distiller DropWorks Rum is launching the first in a new series of hand-selected, special edition Drops.
Known as Distiller’s Drops, each exclusive Drop, which will be limited to a set number of bottles, will be a unique example of modern British rum drawn from the DropWorks’ barrel store.
Every exclusive rum is crafted in the DropWorks distillery, the largest of its kind in Europe, nestled in the heart of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.
The inaugural Distiller’s Drop, launching to the public on November 3rd, will be limited to just 450 bottles and this will be the first release in a series that will become highly collectable. Matured for 17 months in a rare English Sweet Chestnut cask, it will deliver a refined yet playful expression of maturation.
Lewis Hayes, Founder and Master Distiller at DropWorks, said: “Since opening our doors in 2023, everything has been building towards this. We’re excited to introduce our first limited-release Distiller’s Drop that showcases our ability to craft exceptional rum beyond our core range.
“Traditionally, rum is aged in oak casks, which add familiar notes of vanilla and coconut thanks to natural lactones in the wood. The English Chestnut wood creates a nutty, rounded flavour profile, with notes of praline, roasted chestnuts, and warm autumnal tones.
“These casks are extremely hard to come by, but a local cooperage made us seven bespoke English Chestnut hogsheads which have never been used, enabling us to add a deep flavour in a short amount of time.
“This is one Drop you won’t want to miss, and I recommend it be enjoyed neat, no ice, to fully appreciate its depth and complex character.”
This latest chapter in redefining rum follows the distillery’s recent successful crowdfunding campaign, which raised almost half a million pounds from 295 supporters. Those who invested in a share of the brand and its mission will receive exclusive first access to the debut Distiller’s Drop on 27th October, a full week before sales open to the general public.

The Distillery offers a core range of five British-made Drops, providing ‘rum for everyone’ and consisting of Barrel Drop, Clear Drop, Dark Drop, Funk Drop and Spice Drop - the first spiced rum made without any added spices.
