Tesco has retained the title of Retailer of the Year 2020 whilst Asda was the winner of the FAIR trophy for the Best FreeFrom Food 2020 at this year’s virtual awards.

For the 6th year running Oakland International sponsored the retailer category.

Oakland International Co-Founder, Sallie Attwell, commented:

“As a supply chain business offering consolidation, contract packing and distribution we continue to experience freefrom food retail growth across all our service platforms. Freefrom food continues to build thanks to consumer demand.

“Many congratulations to Tesco and to all FreeFrom Food Awards category winners.”

The annual FreeFrom Food Awards reflect the immense growth in the FreeFrom market, with gluten-free, milk-free and allergen-free now a familiar site on retailer shelves. FreeFrom Food Awards judges include professional food manufacturers, chefs, cookery writers, dietitians, nutritionists and to freefrom bloggers.

Director of the awards and heading the judging team was freefrom food/health writer and expert Michelle Berriedale-Johnson:

“We were so delighted to have Oakland International as sponsors of the Retailer of the Year category again this year. As the last few weeks has shown us, we really are a nation of supermarket shoppers so to get ‘freefrom’ food to the largest numbers of those allergic consumers who need it, we really do need to have the supermarkets engaged. And they certainly were this year!”
