Revolutionising the instore shopping experience with state-of-the-art Electronic Shelf Edge Labels (ESELs) enhances the in-store shopping experience for customers and streamlines operations for retailers. EDGEPoS ESELs are fully integrated into Henderson Technology’s award-winning EPoS system, EDGEPoS.

The implementation of EDGEPoS ESELs replace traditional paper labels at the shelf edge with dynamic electronic screens. This means convenience and forecourt operators can ensure real-time pricing updates and eliminate pricing discrepancies between the shelf edge and the till. The dynamic pricing capability allows for greater flexibility in pricing strategies and enhances a store’s efficiency – a much easier and more cost-effective way to manage margin and adapt quickly to market activity.

EDGEPoS ESELs enable retailers to provide customers with up-to-date product information, promotions, and advertisements directly at the point of purchase, allowing shoppers to make informed purchasing decisions which enhance the overall shopping experience.

The installation of ESELs cuts down hours of manual price-changing for store staff and ensures stores stay compliant. In addition, digital shelf edge labels can align retailers’ commitments to sustainability by replacing paper labels with digital displays, allowing retailers to significantly reduce paper waste and promote environmental-friendly practices.

Henderson Technology installed its first ESEL into Smyth’s EUROSPAR in Ballymoney in 2019 and five years later the EPOS company has now grown this to one million labels in over 220 convenience and forecourt stores, the latest of which being Filco Supermarkets.

Darren Nickels, Retail Technology Operations Director at Henderson Technology, said: “ESELs are the first step in digitizing the instore shopping experience. This cutting-edge technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also elevates the shopping experience for shoppers. ESELs are playing a crucial role in shaping the future of retail. It allows stores to innovate and adapt to changing consumer needs, whilst at the same time provides customers with a seamless shopping experience.

“From 2024 we are extending our digital offer to supply digital screens and create digital content for stores. We already manage 600 screens, and we will be extending this out to also include Barista Bar retail customers. The benefit of tying on-shelf and digital screen messaging together allows stores to communicate their offers more accurately.”

Filco Supermarkets Director, Matthew Hunt, added: “Installing ESELs from EDGEPoS has been a real positive influence in our stores. It has been so well-received by all our staff that it’s opened the door for us to embrace additional retail technology.

“Staff are very happy with their ease of use; making their jobs easier, saving them time and ultimately make the store operationally more efficient. Dynamic pricing gives us the opportunity to set up a flexible pricing strategy for certain products at particular times of day. We are excited to see what the future in retail technology holds.”

EDGEPoS by Henderson Technology is installed in over 940 sites across the UK and Australia. For more information, visit the team on stand N21 at NCS in Birmingham from 29 April – 1 May 2024.
